Md. Motahar Hossain
State Minister for Primary and Mass
Education. Founder and chairman of Barakhata Degree College and Jomshed Ali
Agriculture Training Institute, Barakhata along with 40 Institute in Hatibandha
Upazila. He was born on 19th December, 1948 in a noted muslim family
at Purbo Sardoubi village of Barakhata Union under Hatibandha Upazila of
Lalmonirhut district. His father late Jamshed Ali and mother late Morium Begum.
He is the second issue of his parents.
At the inception
of his Primary Education Md. Motahar Hossain has received it from Barakhata
Paikartari Govt. Primary School. He was elected as a general secretary of
Barakhata High School Chattra Sangshad when he was a student of class eight in
1962 and later on he entered into political arena and joined in Bangladesh
Chattra League. In the year 1964 leading a processing again EPR in Barakhata
hat he has taken into jail, Rangpur. After passing the S.S.C in 1965 he got
himself admitted firstly in Carmichael College and secondly in Rangpur
Government College. He led the historic 6th and 11th Dofa
movement as a student leader. After passing the H.S.C he got admitted in
Nilphamary College as a student of B.Sc. He led the mass movement of 1969
demanding the trial of the murder of Serjeant Johurul Haque and unconditional
acquittal of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahaman along
with the withdrawal of Agartala conspiracy case. After receiving his B.Sc
Degree he started serving as a B.Sc teacher at Barakhata High school in 1969.
He organized the freedom fighters in Bangladesh
office at Sitalkuchi in India at the first phase of the month of April, May and
June in the Liberation War in 1971. Later on he participated actively in
Liberation War as a valiant freedom fighter after taking a rigorous training
from Tapurhat under Kuchbihar district in India. In September he joined as a
commission officer of Bangladesh Army from 2nd short commission and
continued up to August 1973 In 10 East Bangal Regiment. After his self
resignation from the Army he concentreted his own business and benevolent
activities in his constituency. As a result he was elected as general secretary
of Bangladesh Awami League of Hatibandha Thana in 1977. He served as president
of Hatibandha upazila Awami League from 1985 to 2005. He was elected as a
president of Bangladesh Awami League of Lalmonirhat District in 2006
consequitively, still his adorneng the President ship.
He was elected as a upazila chairman for the two
terms in 1985 and 1990 for his dedication of grass roots and masses. In 1987 he
initiated to enrollment 100 percent childern of his own upazilla area for
primary education and introduce class five final examination (Samapony)
centrally in class five successfully, when he was leading the upazila as a
chairman. He was the pioneer of mass literacy movement in Hatibandha Upazila in
1998 to 2001.
In 1991 he resigned the upazila chairmanship and
participated in 5th parliament election as a candidate of Bangladesh
Awami League from the constituency No-16, Lalmonirhat-1 (Patgram-Hatibandha
Upazila). After that he participated in 6th parliament election and
in 8th Parliament election he won with huge margin of votes and was
elected member of parliament with this honor he has served as oppositional
whip, standing committee of library and agricultural committee. He explored 42
countries of the world including Canada, Russia, France, Spain, UK Germany,
Netherlands, Turkey, China, Philippians, Malaysia, Japan, America, South
Africa, Saudi Arabia etc.
Md. Motahar Hossain was elected as a member of the 9th
parliament election with luge Vitas which was held in 29th December,
2008 from constituency-16, Lalmonirhat-1 and sworn in on 24th January,
2009 as a state Minister, Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.
wife Most. Moslema Khatun is working as an Head Teacher of Barakhata High
School. she is blessed with three sons. First issue A.T.M Mahamudul Hasan
Shohag involved in business and politics. Second issue A.T.M. Iftekhar Hossain
Masud achieved the Computer Engineering and Electronics degree from Istanbul
Technical University of Turkey and also working as businessman. Third issue
A.T.M. Mahafuz Anam Mishuk is working as a provisional officer in Mercantile
Bank, Kawran Bazar Branch, Dhaka.
